Trump Draws Willy Wonka Comparison After Unveiling $5M "Gold Card" Entry to USA
Donald Trump is back in headline-making form, this time with a flashy new proposal: a $5 million “Gold Card” that he says will give wealthy foreigners access to the U.S.—and a potential pathway to citizenship.
Speaking from Air Force One on Thursday (April 3), the former president dramatically revealed the card, which features a bold design complete with his face, the Statue of Liberty, and a bald eagle. Waving it in the air, Trump declared, “For $5 million, this could be yours.”
When asked who he thought the first buyer would be, Trump didn’t hesitate. “Me. I’m the first,” he said.
According to Trump, the card will officially go on sale in the coming weeks. He described it as a fast track for the ultra-wealthy to gain “green card privileges” and a “very strong path” toward U.S. citizenship—though he added that full citizenship would still require congressional approval.
“We don’t need Congress. It’s a path to citizenship. A very strong path, but we’re not doing the citizenship. For that, I’d have to get Congress,” he explained.
Trump also touted the economic benefits of the Gold Card program, painting it as a win for the American economy.
“They’ll be wealthy and they’ll be successful and they’ll be spending a lot of money and paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people,” he said. “Companies can buy Gold Cards and, in exchange, get those visas to hire new employees.”
While the announcement raised eyebrows—and plenty of questions—Trump appears confident that his luxury-style immigration solution will catch on.
